New TNB Tariff – What is the impact?
Effective from 1st June 2011, government announced the increment of electricity (TNB) tariff with average of 7.12%. The increase of electricity tarif was based on the following reason:
- Increase in gas price
- Increase in electricity cost of supply
- In line with Renewable Energy (RE) Act, to be used in development of RE projects.
So for us as domestic consumer, what is the direct impact to us? I will not talk about indirect impact, i.e. rising of food, product prices as it is complicated and very subjectives. So again, for households, what is the impact?
For domestic / household consumers using 300kWh per month and below will not experience tariff increase. The new tariff will only apply for those consume more than 300kWh per month. It was reported that about 75% consume less than 300kWh per month. Table below shown the differences between old and new tariff effective from 1st June 2011.
